OUTDOOR SHOES

My job requires me to spend my days traversing all kinds of rough terrain, often right after trees and brush have been cut down and simply left in place. It's much rougher than your average trail, and I swear by an all-leather boot with good waterproofing and ankle support. I've had cactus needles go straight through cloth mesh boots, nearly twisted my ankle hundreds of times, and I know how miserable wet feet are. I'm currently on my third-in-a-row pair of Vasques, and I just discovered that they've discontinued this model. I hope I can find something else I like as much. They may weigh 1500g, but when I need serious boots I'm willing to put up with that.

When I'm casually hiking on well-maintained trails (particularly ones that have more extensive rock scrambles), I'll often downgrade to my lighter low-top Merrells. They're cheap, comfortable, and surprisingly sturdy.
